Being an animal lover as well as an artist, I flaunt the beauty of the skins by interpreting them on batik. I portray the animals, showing movement and focusing on their individual characteristics.
I would like to create awareness of the wildlife population facing a catastrophic decline, as there are fuelling demand of animal skins for fashion accessories and dealers are profiteering from this illegal but highly lucrative trade. Batik is a good example of wearable art and I concentrate my batik on wildlife. I hope more people appreciate the beauty of animal skins, yet without the need for the killing of the animal, in the form of art.
I also conduct still life oil painting and batik workshops for seniors in Singapore under the Singapore National Arts Council's WeCare art grant.
