Patrícia Barata is a therapist, multidisciplinary artist, teacher and researcher at the intersection of 'creation and communication,' through conscious movement, gesture, visual arts, writing, and sound experience. Born in Lisbon, her academic studies and career spanned a degree in Design, followed by Photography, eventually dedicating to her artwork and artistic direction for over a decade (Portugal, Italy, and Ireland). She simultaneously integrated other studies, in body and movement practices, states of play, improvisation, and therapeutic practices of the hands. Among her deepening studies, she explored Jungian Studies (with Jasbinder Garnermann), Celtic Druidry, and Transpersonal Studies (with Martin Duffy & Annette Peard), where she spent time in Ireland during a whirlwind. Various formats of invitation have emerged since young age, including yoga, meditation, and relaxation/therapeutic massage, non traditional writing practices, among others. In the biodiversity and deformation of expression and research, emerged the performing arts and in studies of the body, energy and consciousness, somatics, and movement—encounters that were and continue to be woven in love with amazing teachers and friends. She's been working with people, places and documentation. With love she opens workshops to the community, where her work incorporates a preference for an experiential approach and using film, photographic, sound, oral, written, and performative media. Patrícia continually transforms and deforms her research and invitations to intergenerational groups and her relationship with SEED SOUND BODY (semente corpo som) among others, as genuine practices of movement, gesture, nature, expression, and improvisation. Some "gardening" practices that are becoming her path are present in www.patriciabarata.com. While providing therapeutic massage as one-to-one communication, LOMIATSU was born: a combination of lomi lomi hawaiian massage with shiatsu, between fluidity and structure, one of her therapeutic offers.
