Description

Ceramics Workshop - Using Air Dry Clay

This workshop will be a guided session inspired by Japanese hand-building techniques and will use air dry clay. Attendees will be able to take the work home and paint it using acrylic paint (or a suitable alternative) if they wish. The focus of the workshop will be to experience using clay and to unwind by following the tutorial in a calm and supportive environment. The session is less about the outcome but about the journey and process.

Introduction (10 minutes)

Welcome and introduction. Short summary about the session and what we will hope to achieve.

Guided Session with Clay (50 minutes)

Attendees will be guided through the pinch technique and how to create a bowl or pot. Attendees will need to leave their work to dry but can collect them at the end of the day or whenever is suitable.

Summary / Feedback (10 minutes)

Attendees will be able to share their experience, what they enjoyed and we end the session together as a group.

About the Host

I am an artist and qualified art teacher with experience range of art practices and mediums. I have lived in the UK, Sweden and now Barcelona. My own art practice is currently influenced by nature, as I am working on a series inspired by the Scottish Highlands, where I have spent a lot of time. I also use oil paints to create realistic portraits of family and friends. My latest medium is ceramics and have learned many Japanese hand-working techniques and methods. As an art teacher, I love playing with colour and love bright, colourful artwork with expressive brushstrokes. My teaching approach is supportive and friendly and for all levels of experience. I aim to make art enjoyable to all of the participants who attend the workshops as I believe creating can be a calming and bonding experience.

Client Requirements

I would need tables/chairs for all participants and an extra table to set up materials. I would also need access to a sink to wash brushes and access water for ceramics and painting workshop. Felting workshop would just need tables / chairs.
