Workshop

Description

I offer Bollywood dance sessions which combine fitness, fun and nuanced expressions. These can be of multiple formats:

  • Fitness: With a warm up to start and cool down to end, we dance to high energy Bollywood music for 45 mins to an hour, including some floor exercises to strengthen and stretch our muscles. The aim is not to achieve perfection, but have fun while getting a solid cardio-workout. Works best when done on a regular basis e.g. twice or thrice a week.
  • Teaching: Borrowing from Indian classical and folk dance styles, Bollywood is a unique dance style which uses hand gestures and facial expressions for storytelling. These sessions, unlike the fitness sessions, are not fast paced, but engage in explanation and feeling the emotions in the song. We will usually complete one song of 1 min in a 1 hour session.

Benefits

  • Leaves you feeling energetic and ready to take on the day
  • Instills confidence and value in your body
  • Regular sessions build resilience
  • Dancing with a group always elevates the mood and trust of each other
  • Gives you access to the way your body works in creative ways e.g. hang gestures
  • Group work can help in team-building, mending relationships and break the ice.

About the Host

A cultural (difference) mediator with a solid background in Philosophy (BA, MA, MPhil) coupled with an Artistic Research doctorate focusing on empathy, I facilitate human interactions in the hope of transforming society- one conflict at a time. As a social Sculpture practitioner, I believe that "every human being is an artist" and strive towards personal, professional and social transformation. My rigorous dance training for over 15 years has instilled a keen aesthetic for life which is enhanced by understanding 'aesthetic' (that which enliven us) as the opposite of an-aesthetic (that which numbs, deadens us). With an inherent curiosity of and sensitivity towards all cultures, I am inspired to bring my expertise to co-create non-hierarchical spaces for experiential learning.
