Workshop
Description
Stress has gotten a bad wrap, often labeled as 'bad'. But stress in itself is not the enemy. Chronic, unregulated stress is. This session unpacks the neuroscience of the stress response: what it is, why it exists, what the hidden stressors are in the modern workplace, and how to work with stress as a positive factor in your work and life more broadly. Drawing on neuroscience, somatic practices, and behavioural research, I translate complex science into accessible insights and share practical micro-practices that participants can integrate immediately. The session reframes stress as information, provides knowledge about how to build capacity to navigate stress, and equips people with real skills to regulate their nervous systems under pressure. The session is a combination of lecture with slides, integrated somatic practices that can be done seated, and tailored audience discussion.
Ideal as a standalone session or as the intellectual companion to a Rediscover Rest session.
Benefits
- Stress literacy — participants gain a clear, science-backed understanding of the mechanics of stress and the stress response, along with the impact of stress on performance, creativity, and decision-making in the modern workplace
- Immediate practical tools — participants leave with four to five evidence-based micro-practices to regulate the nervous system in real time, which they can start implementing immediately
- Increased resilience — understanding the mechanics of stress builds the capacity to navigate it more skilfully, reducing burnout over time while increasing performance
- Enhanced creativity and innovation — regulated nervous systems are demonstrably more creative; participants leave understanding the direct link between rest, stress management, and innovative thinking
- Reframe of stress as a healthy factor — participants leave with a reset understanding of stress, shifting their perception from demonising and avoiding stress, to embracing healthy stress
