Description
This interactive group experience is designed for professionals of all backgrounds—no musical experience required. Groove & Grow uses guided musical improvisation as a unique and engaging way to strengthen communication, collaboration, and presence in a group setting.
It is and creativity through reflective group experiences. Participants will gain practical tools for communication while experiencing the benefits of creative expression and community.
Benefits
This session will begin with an introduction to the instrument's history, exploring a range of ways they can be used. This will be followed by an overview of the improvisational approach, with a focus on key techniques. Participants will then take part in an interactive music-making experience, and the session will conclude with a reflective discussion on their experiences.
The participants will have the opportunity to play small instruments from various parts of the world including: Thailand, Egypt, West Africa and so forth. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own instruments to the interactive experience!

About the Host
I received my Master's degree in Music Therapy & Counseling from Drexel University. I am Music Therapy Board Certified (MT-BC) and a Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT).
My creative approach to the therapeutic process allows for an individualized treatment plan based on the strengths, challenges, and interests of each client. In my work, I draw from cultural-relational theory, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, systems-based, mindfulness-based approaches and music therapy.
I have experience working with adults and older adults with various mental illnesses such as PTSD, Schizophrenia, Depression, and Anxiety within a psychiatric setting. I have worked with adults of all ages and backgrounds that seek support for a variety of clinical issues which includes, but is not limited to, stress management, self-esteem, identity formation, self care, anger management, communication/social skills, relationship building, and support with life transitions.
I have 1.5 years of experience working with children from the ages of 5 months to 17 years old who present with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other intellectual/developmental disabilities. I aim to establish physical, speech, and cognitive developmental goals while working on their self-esteem, autonomy, impulse control, social skills, and stress management.
I provide adaptive music lessons to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. These lessons have consisted of piano, guitar, bass, ukulele and song composition. It gives me a great amount of joy to see the progression and the hard work of each client while also improving their lives out side of musical experiences.
