Workshop

Description

A practical, interactive session where participants learn how to recognise signs of emotional strain or distress in others and respond in a grounded, psychologically informed way — without trying to diagnose or “fix” them. It’s inspired by psychological first aid frameworks used in workplaces, which focus on Look, Listen, Link approaches to support emotional wellbeing safely and effectively.

While this workshop is designed primarily for colleagues supporting colleagues, it can be adapted for client-facing roles. Industries where employees frequently interact with clients — such as hospitality, retail, customer service, health, and education — often gain particularly valuable insight from this session. Knowing how to respond when someone tells you or acts in a way that indicates they are struggling can be a lifeline.

How it works:

  • Brief introduction to psychological first aid principles

  • Guided group discussion on real workplace scenarios

  • Interactive paired exercises practising attentive listening and calm presence

  • Spotting early signs of stress, overwhelm, burnout or disengagement

  • Role-plays: supportive conversations with colleagues or clients

  • Group reflection on what helps and what hinders connection

  • Take-home tip sheet

Benefits

Benefits:

  • Improved emotional resilience
Practical tools for managing emotional strain — both personally and in supporting others — help teams stay grounded under pressure.

  • Better communication and conflict prevention
By recognising early signs of stress and addressing situations sensitively, teams can prevent misunderstandings or tension from escalating.

  • Increased confidence & psychological safety
Staff feel empowered to act appropriately when someone is struggling, knowing they have practical skills to help without overstepping boundaries.

  • Boosted engagement & motivation
When people feel supported and understood, engagement improves, and team members are more willing to collaborate and contribute actively.

  • Heightened perspective & awareness
Participants develop a stronger understanding of emotional patterns in the workplace, helping them navigate difficult situations with insight rather than reaction.

  • Alignment with organisational wellbeing goals
Equips teams to support a culture of wellbeing, aligning employee care with company values and objectives.

About the Host

I am a counselling therapist who began my career as a business consultant. My passion lies in helping people move through emotional overwhelm, stuck patterns and relational tension by translating psychological insight into reflection and practical tools that genuinely work in real life.
When I’m not in session with clients, I design wellbeing programmes and psychoeducational workshops for businesses, schools, organisations and communities. I’m particularly interested in making psychological ideas accessible, engaging and immediately usable — not abstract theory, but concepts that help people understand themselves and each other more clearly.
We spend a large part of our lives at work, yet very few of us are ever taught how to navigate its human side. I believe organisations flourish when people feel psychologically informed, emotionally aware and better equipped to handle challenge. Whether through structured workshops, one-on-one counselling, team sessions or teaching emotional first aid for moments when a colleague or client is struggling, my aim is the same: to bring clarity, steadiness and humanity into the spaces where we spend most of our time.
Because when we understand how people work, work works better.
