Ottavia Virzì

I am a textile artisan and costume designer with a degree in Art History and ten years of professional experience within international contexts. I organise handweaving workshops using small frame looms, introducing participants to hand weaving through an accessible making experience. In addition to historical and visual research, my background includes work on local heritage and community development projects, working with both young people and adults. Sustainability and cultural value are central to my work: the study of heritage textiles and natural fibres deepened my understanding of material culture and craft traditions.
Focusing on hand weaving and textile heritage has allowed me to bring together historical research and hands-on practice, working directly with local producers and artisans. The act of hand weaving is a grounding experience – a quiet alignment of history, hand, eye and mind.
