Workshop
Description
Better conversations are rarely just about finding the right words. They also depend on how we interpret situations, what we assume about other people, how we respond when we feel misunderstood, and whether we can stay open enough to hear something different from what we expected.
This interactive workshop helps participants become more aware of the patterns that shape everyday communication and workplace relationships.
Rather than focusing on rigid communication techniques, the session looks at what actually happens between people: how assumptions form, how misunderstandings grow, why certain conversations become repetitive or frustrating, and how greater self-awareness can create more constructive responses.
Participants will be guided through a combination of short teaching segments, reflection exercises, practical workplace scenarios, paired or group discussion, and guided application.
The workshop explores:
• How interpretation can become confused with fact, especially in emotionally charged or ambiguous situations.
• How personal expectations, previous experiences, and assumptions influence the way we hear and respond to other people.
• How to recognise recurring communication patterns before they become unnecessary conflict or disconnection.
• The difference between reacting to what we think someone means and responding to what has actually been communicated.
• How to check assumptions without becoming defensive, passive, or overly confrontational.
• How to communicate disagreement, concerns, needs, and boundaries more clearly.
• How listening changes when we stop preparing our response and become more curious about what the other person is actually saying.
• How to recognise when a conversation is no longer productive and what can help reopen it.
• How greater self-awareness can improve teamwork, collaboration, trust, and everyday working relationships.
Participants will also work with realistic examples and have the opportunity to apply the ideas to situations they commonly encounter in professional life.
The session ends with a practical reflection in which each participant identifies one communication pattern they want to become more aware of and one concrete behaviour they can practise in future conversations.
The aim is not to teach a single “correct” communication style. It is to help participants understand themselves and others more clearly, reduce avoidable misunderstanding, and develop more thoughtful and constructive ways of communicating at work.
Benefits
• Improved self-awareness — participants become more conscious of the assumptions, expectations, and automatic reactions that influence how they communicate.
• Clearer communication — participants develop practical ways to express concerns, disagreement, needs, and perspectives more directly and constructively.
• Fewer avoidable misunderstandings — participants learn to distinguish between what was actually said or done and the interpretation they may have added to it.
• Stronger workplace relationships — greater awareness of communication patterns can support trust, collaboration, empathy, and more constructive working relationships.
• Better listening — participants practise listening with greater curiosity rather than immediately defending a position or preparing a response.
• More constructive disagreement — participants gain tools for staying engaged in difficult conversations without automatically escalating, withdrawing, or avoiding the issue.
• Increased perspective-taking — participants become better able to consider alternative interpretations and understand how the same situation may be experienced differently by another person.
• Greater confidence in difficult conversations — participants leave with a clearer structure for approaching conversations they may otherwise postpone or handle reactively.
• Improved team collaboration — clearer communication and stronger awareness of interpersonal patterns can reduce friction and make coordination easier.
• Practical application — participants leave with an individual communication focus and a specific behaviour they can immediately practise in their professional relationships.

About the Host
Vladisav Jovanović is a coach and facilitator working at the intersection of applied psychology, communication, decision-making, and human performance under pressure. He supports individuals and teams in developing greater clarity, self-awareness, and more effective ways of responding to complex or demanding situations.
Before moving into coaching, Vladisav spent 7.5 years with Emirates Airline in a highly international, customer-facing operational environment. Working across cultures and in high-pressure situations gave him extensive practical experience in communication, adaptability, teamwork, emotional regulation, and staying effective when circumstances change quickly.
His approach combines applied psychology, coaching, reflective inquiry, and practical frameworks for examining assumptions, patterns, communication breakdowns, and decision-making. Rather than offering generic motivation or one-size-fits-all advice, he helps participants understand what is actually happening in a situation and identify a more workable next response.
His sessions are interactive and grounded in real-life challenges. Areas of focus include communication, self-awareness, workplace relationships, decision-making, resilience, career transition, navigating uncertainty, and maintaining clarity under pressure.
The aim is for participants to leave not only with insight, but with a clearer understanding of their situation and practical ways to respond differently in their work and everyday life.
