Description

In nature, nothing is wasted. Leaves fall, colours fade, and the matter turns to compost, creating the fertile soils for seeds to sprout from. Cycles of death and renewal are constantly in motion in the natural world.

In this hands-on workshop, we work with the intelligence of nature's cycles to create works of art (either individual or a collective piece that can be installed in the client's office / shop). The ancient art of natural textile dyeing, working with plant-based pigments drawn from seasonal, foraged materials (fallen flowers, leaves, etc.), becomes a living metaphor for the cycles of endings and beginnings that run through all creative and organisational life.

As participants work with their hands, entering a state of creative flow, they are invited to allow an intention to surface: what is ready to die in order to create space for something new to emerge? A habit. A way of working. An assumption that has outlived its usefulness. The dye process becomes a container for that release, where the white silk cloth transforms, painted by the colours of nature's pigments. The resulting artwork(s) are a tangible symbol of what becomes possible when we honour these natural cycles and release what is ready to fall away.

Particularly powerful for teams navigating change or transitions. No prior experience needed.

All materials are sourced and prepared in advance. All silk will be sourced from either a social enterprise that supplies deadstock ex-designer silk, or from the UK's only organic peace silk farm. Space requirements to be discussed; tables and chairs, along with a hot plate or stovetop and water source and sink for rinsing will be needed.

Benefits

  • Creative flow state — hands-on making with natural materials induces a meditative focus that restores mental energy and unlocks lateral thinking
  • Tangible personal output — every participant leaves with a unique, handmade textile piece dyed using natural botanical pigments, a lasting reminder of the experience. Alternatively, a single large silk piece can be collectively dyed and installed in the client's office space.
  • Nature connection in the workplace — working with plant-based materials brings the natural world into the corporate environment, reconnecting participants with nature which leads to measurable wellbeing benefits
  • Team bonding through making — shared creative experience builds connection and trust across teams in a relaxed, non-hierarchical environment
  • Living sustainability — participants experience circular and regenerative principles firsthand through a craft rooted in ecological relationship, making abstract sustainability concepts tangible and memorable
