Workshop

Description

Drawing on the science demonstrating the positive effect of spending time in nature and meaningfully connecting with the natural world, this session takes participants outside into a nearby park, garden, or green urban space to slow down, observe, and reconnect with the more-than-human world around them. Introduction to unique flora and landscape aspects, guided sensory exercises, and facilitated discussion weave together neuroscience, ecology, and personal insight. The session can close outdoors or indoors with group reflection and integration.

I scout and scope each site in advance to ensure the experience is seamless and practicalities work well based on the event location. Suitable for any green urban environment including city parks, corporate gardens, and green rooftops. Option for a herbal tea of medicinal, seasonal herbs and botanicals to be served for the walk.

Outdoor guided experience with optional indoor reflective close. Participants need to be prepared for time outside in all weather.

Benefits

  • Measurable stress reduction — even short periods of nature exposure and connection have been shown to lower cortisol levels and regulate the nervous system; participants feel the difference in a relatively short period of time
  • Nature connection know-how — participants learn techniques to meaningfully connect with the nature around them and gain the most benefits for their mental health, while replenishing directed attention, focused, and cognitively sharp
  • Perspective and spaciousness — stepping outside the built environment creates a natural reset, helping teams return to challenges with fresh eyes and renewed energy
  • Embodied mindfulness — participants develop practical nature-based mindfulness skills that can be integrated into everyday urban life, not just special occasions
  • Team cohesion — getting out of the office environment and having a shared outdoor experience builds trust and connection in ways that indoor environments rarely replicate, particularly valuable for hybrid or remote teams coming together
