Dimitri Arnauts is a Belgian composer, music pedagogue and creative director with a long-standing background in composition, choral singing, conducting and multidisciplinary artistic creation.
Through ContraFlowe, he brings this experience into a more direct and human setting: helping groups explore how listening, rhythm, voice and spontaneous creation can strengthen connection, trust and collective awareness.
His workshops do not require musical training. Instead, participants are guided through simple vocal and rhythmic structures that gradually evolve into a shared improvisation.
Dimitri’s role combines those of composer, conductor and facilitator: creating a safe framework, sensing the dynamics of the group and helping individual voices become part of a living collective experience.
At the heart of ContraFlowe lies a simple idea: people can learn something about the way they relate, communicate and collaborate by making music together.
Composer • Music Pedagogue • Creative Director • Founder of ContraFlowe
Dimitri Arnauts is a Belgian creator whose work has long explored the connections between music, voice, emotion, listening and collective expression.
With a background spanning classical composition, choral singing, conducting, multimedia creation and creative direction, he has worked with performers, ensembles and artistic partners across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. Over more than two decades, he has developed an extensive catalogue of orchestral, choral, chamber, vocal and multimedia works, with more than 500 tracks released internationally.
Alongside composition, Dimitri has always been deeply interested in what happens between people when they create together: how individuals listen, respond, adapt, take initiative, support one another and gradually transform separate voices into a shared musical experience.
This exploration lies at the heart of ContraFlowe.
Through guided vocal improvisation, rhythm, movement, attentive listening and spontaneous group interaction, Dimitri creates workshops in which participants can experience collaboration in a direct and playful way — without needing to read music or consider themselves singers.
Rather than teaching people what to sing, he creates a framework in which a group can discover its own sound.
His approach draws on years of practical experience with choir singing, ensemble leadership, conducting and vocal repertoire, combined with a broader background in artistic direction, communication and interdisciplinary creative work.
From corporate teams and leadership groups to friends, private groups and couples, ContraFlowe adapts the same fundamental musical principles to different human dynamics: listening before reacting, finding one’s place without losing one’s individuality, responding to others, accepting uncertainty, and building something together in real time.
Dimitri’s role within the workshop is therefore somewhere between composer, conductor and facilitator: establishing a clear structure, reading the energy of the group, introducing musical impulses and gradually allowing participants to take ownership of the collective experience.
The result is not primarily a performance.
It is a shared moment of attention, creativity and connection — created entirely by the people in the room.
