About James

James is an award-winning musician, speaker and author who helps people to harness the transformative power of singing. He is on a mission to help people to reconnect with their voice and each other, sparking joy and supporting wellbeing. Over the last decade has brought tens of thousands of people together at events and gatherings around the world – from choirs to conferences, workshops to workplaces, festivals to football stadiums. His latest project ‘Bantam Of The Opera’ sees James take fifty football fans from the stadium to the stage as part of a new BBC series, with the help of several high-profile celebrities. He features regularly in the UK press and media, with multiple appearances on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC One, BBC Worldwide and NBC (US). He has also appeared in most major UK newspapers and a number of lifestyle magazines, including writing a monthly column for Psychologies Magazine. James’s first book, ‘Do Sing: Reclaim Your Voice. Find Your Singing Tribe’ is published by the Do Book Co. and is described by Cerys Matthews as ‘an open door to the joyous world of singing’ and has inspired readers around the world. As a speaker, James’s experience includes events such as TEDx Manchester, Do Lectures, Creative Mornings (NYC), One Track Minds, with festivals including Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place and Chris Evans’ Car Fest. Through the prism of singing, he explores issues around community, social health, flow theory and leadership. An experienced facilitator, he regularly works with senior leaders at some of the world’s biggest companies and organisations, with recent clients including Coca-Cola, Expedia and the NHS. James’s audience choir workshops provide the perfect ice-breaker for any event, creating a powerful peak moment for all participants. In 2020, he founded online community The Sofa Singers for which he was awarded a Points Of Light Award from the UK government. This to recognise how his work to help combat feelings of isolation during the Coronavirus pandemic. In an age where we’re more digitally connected but more socially isolated than ever before, James’s work help us rediscover not just the joy of singing, but the joy of human-to-human connection.
