Matthew Thomas

Matthew Thomas is a highly regarded people and transformation executive with more than 25 years of experience leading workforce strategy, organisational change and culture across local government, banking, commercial enterprise and higher education. As Chief People Officer at the City of Stirling, he is responsible for shaping a contemporary people agenda that strengthens organisational capability, leadership effectiveness and employee experience. Matthew has held senior leadership roles across some of Western Australia’s and Australia’s most recognised organisations, including Commonwealth Bank and Racing and Wagering Western Australia. His background spans large-scale HR transformation, agile ways of working, leadership development, employee experience, inclusion and diversity, and the delivery of complex strategic programs. He is known for combining commercial acumen with deep people expertise to deliver practical, forward-looking outcomes. In addition to his executive roles, Matthew has contributed extensively to governance, industry development and education through board appointments, university engagement and professional mentoring.
