Description

A keynote about what silence costs an organisation and what it costs the person staying silent.

Every organisation has people who do excellent work and say nothing about it. They avoid the meeting. They decline the presentation. They let someone else take the visible project. Over a career that quietly decides who gets promoted.

What happens

Anthea opens with the moment everyone in the room recognises, the point where you had something to say and the gap closed before you said it.

She then explains why speaking fear is a psychological pattern rather than a skills gap, which is why so much presentation training changes nothing.

The talk introduces the Breaking the Silence Quadrant so people leave able to name their own pattern, rather than leaving with a general sense that they should be braver.

It closes with three practical steps and 10 to 15 minutes of Q&A.

Warm, direct and specific. Real stories, no motivational filler.

What participants leave with

A name for what has been happening to them. Three steps they can use immediately. The understanding that their voice was always important.

Benefits

  • Confidence: through understanding the cause rather than being told to be braver
  • Motivation: with a clear first step rather than general inspiration
  • Engagement: addressing why capable people stay invisible at work
  • Inclusion: since the people most affected are often the least represented in senior rooms
  • Resilience: reframing discomfort as evidence of growth rather than a reason to stop
  • Cohesion: with a shared language for something teams rarely discuss

About the Host

A speaking confidence specialist with 20 years in learning and development and five years focused on the psychology of speaking fear. I work with professionals who are excellent at their jobs yet go quiet in the rooms that matter most to them.

My approach is psychology first. I address what someone believes about speaking before I touch how they do it, which is why the change tends to stick long after the session ends.

I have worked across financial services, rail, technology, education and professional services, with groups ranging from emerging talent to senior leadership. I have been the person in the room who couldn't speak, which is where the work comes from.

Sessions are warm, direct and practical. People leave having done something, not just heard something.
