Description
Chalybeate has created a mindfulness workshop using Qi Gong and Tai Chi to enhance personal mastery and leadership development.
The workshop is based on a workshop that Chalybeate has used in leadership and team development since 2004. It introduces mindfulness – the history, the uses, the benefits and practices. The practices we focus on here, are the Chinese practice of Qi Gong and the Tai Chi martial art.
Workshop Aim
The aim of the workshop is to introduce the practice and discipline of Qi Gong and Tai Chi to help develop mindfulness and to develop qualities of openness, curiosity and collaboration. Mindfulness can, with practice, develop individual focus, empathy, emotional regulation and mental resilience.
Tai Chi and Qi Gong
These are both ancient Chinese practices that blend physical movement, mindfulness, meditation, and breathing exercises to promote overall health and well-being. They have many similarities but have different origins.
Tai Chi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan, is a martial art. It is best known for the ‘form, a series of slow, flowing movements that emphasize grace, balance, and relaxation. Each of those movements though is a self-defence technique. The practice cultivates our inner energy and strength.
Qi Gong, on the other hand, is a discipline to improve health. It encompasses a broader range of exercises and techniques aimed at cultivating and balancing Qi. It includes both dynamic movements and static postures, often synchronized with specific breathing patterns and mental focus. Qi Gong is used for various purposes, including health maintenance, healing, and spiritual growth.
They both draw on the wisdom of in traditional Chinese medicine and seek to balance the body's vital energy, known as "Qi."
Both Tai Chi and Qi Gong offer numerous benefits, such as improved flexibility, strength, and mental clarity, making them accessible and beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels.
In this 60-90 minute workshop, I introduce the concept and benefits of mindfulness for health and also for leadership.
Benefits
Physical health and well-being, emotional regulation, empathy, focus, curiosity and openness. All contributing to a richer life and greater leadership.
