Workshop

Description

Shubidubi Welcome is a short-form printed-sheet session for a cold room. Each person gets a sheet of printed tasks and chooses freely what to do and with whom. No briefing, no technology, no scoring.

How it runs:

  • The facilitator hands out the sheets and sets the room going within the first minutes.
  • Participants pick tasks and start working alone or together straight away.
  • Each task leaves a visible action or a physical artefact on the tables.
  • The facilitator photographs what the room makes.

Built as an opener: a room of strangers is collaborating before the main agenda starts. Materials supplied; needs a room with tables.

Benefits

The benefits:

  • Replaces the standard icebreaker with a designed format from an art practice
  • Cross-table mixing from the first minutes
  • Gets a cold room active before the main agenda starts
  • No prep, no reading-in, no technology
  • A photographed record to keep
  • Works for mixed-language and international groups

Additional Experience Info

Flat per session, up to 40 participants, all materials included. Travel and accommodation billed on top for sessions outside London.

Hosted by Alejandro Ramos Saavedra

About the Host

Alejandro Ramos Saavedra is a London based designer, educator and founder. He trained at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London, is a Senior Lecturer at Kingston School of Art and University of the Arts, co-founded the design consultancy Forma Partners and ARS Consulting Studio, and sits on the board of different cultural institutions in Mexico. He makes systems and formats that change how people do and make things.

He is the author of Shubidubi, a session format built from printed sheets of tasks: each participant chooses freely what to do and with whom, with no briefing, no technology and no evaluation. Strangers end up working together, and everything the group makes is photographed as a record the client keeps. He runs sessions for teams and public groups in English and Spanish, shaped to the room's brief.
