This practical session helps participants turn dense, technical or nuanced material into communication that people can understand, remember and act on — without oversimplifying the substance.
Participants explore how to identify the real message, understand what an audience actually needs to know, structure information clearly, remove unnecessary complexity and use examples, analogy, story and plain language effectively.
The session draws on Jay’s decades of experience communicating complex policy, political and strategic issues to very different audiences, from senior decision-makers to the general public.
Ideal for people working in government, policy, professional services, technical fields or any role where expertise needs to travel beyond the experts.

About the Host
I’m a Canberra-based speaker, facilitator, presenter and voice artist with a background that spans professional communication, government, diplomacy, intelligence, performance and the creative arts.
After more than two decades working in roles where communicating complex ideas clearly really mattered, I now use those skills in a much more eclectic portfolio career. I run practical workshops and one-to-one sessions in voice, presentation, audio and creative communication; speak about mental health, psychosocial safety and lived experience; facilitate and MC events; and work with creative organisations on marketing and audience engagement.
My approach is practical, warm and highly participatory. I’m interested in helping people communicate with greater confidence and clarity — whether that means speaking to a room, finding a more natural and engaging voice, handling difficult material, or getting an idea out of their head and into the world.
I’m also an active performer, including improv theatre and choral performance, and I bring that willingness to experiment, play and respond to the room into my facilitation work.
Travel Locations
Sydney, Central West NSW, South Coast NSW, Southern Highlands NSW, Snowy Mountains region NSW, Melbourne. Other locations possible depending on timing, location and expenses.
Client Requirements
I am flexible. I usually use a presentation but it's optional. For example, I've given presentations as 'morning tea' and led discussion rather than presenting in a traditional sence.
