Workshop
Description
This is an empowerment experience that uses drawing as the carriage to awaken dormant creativity and serve as an ignition point into a new way of thinking. A transformative workshop that shatters the "I can't draw" myth and ignites the question: "What else can I do that I didn't know I could?"
This isn't about becoming an artist—it's about discovering that your analytical mind is your creative superpower. The drawing is simply the vehicle that proves you're capable of more than you believed. All it takes is one tiny spark to affect so much change. This interactive workshop demonstrates that drawing isn't about hand talent and it's not about visual skills or learning to just look harder—it's about very specific analytical comparison skills that we access daily in our lives, but have never learned how to access these skills specifically for drawing.
What Actually Happens:
Opening Discussion (5 minutes): I share a striking statistic: 95% of the population believes they can't draw—and reveal the truth: drawing comes from the mind, not the hand. This reframe immediately shifts the room's energy from anxiety to curiosity.
The Four Comparison Skills (10 minutes): Participants discover they already use the four comparison skills required for drawing every single day:
- Angles: When you're straightening a picture on the wall, you're comparing angles
- Sizes: When you're cutting a chocolate cake in half, and half again, and again to get eighths—even the youngest child knows if one piece is bigger than the other
- Tones: You can tell what time of day it is by the tone in the sky—"it's almost dinner time"
- Spaces: You know when a room is too crowded or empty
I demonstrate how these everyday analytical skills are the foundation of drawing—proving their "analytical mind" is actually their creative superpower.
Interactive "I Spy Shapes" Game (5 minutes): The room comes alive as participants call out shapes they spot in everyday objects around them—a water bottle is a cylinder and rectangle, a coffee cup is a circle and curve, a laptop is rectangles. Laughter and "aha!" moments build as everyone realizes complex objects are just simple shapes combined.
Live Demonstration (5 minutes): On the whiteboard, I demonstrate my construction drawing method—breaking down a complex object into simple shapes first, then refining. Participants see in real-time that drawing isn't mysterious; it's systematic and logical.
Hands-On Practice: Drawing Shapes (5 minutes): Using the graphite pencil and paper provided in their welcome pack, participants practice drawing basic shapes—circles, rectangles, triangles. No pressure, no judgment, just building muscle memory and confidence.
Draw-Along Session (10 minutes): Now comes the magic. I guide the group step-by-step as we draw together—a cute Australian animal (kangaroo, koala, or wombat depending on the group). "Draw a circle here. Add an oval there. Now two small circles for ears." Participants follow along, watching their drawing come to life under their own hand. The room buzzes with surprise, delight, and pride.
The Transformation: By the final minute, participants hold up their completed drawings—recognizable, charming, theirs. The shift from "I can't" to "I can" is visible on every face. And that's when the real transformation happens: if they could do this in 40 minutes, what else might be possible? That question—that spark of potential—is what they carry back to their teams, their projects, their lives.
What Makes This Unique - The Cindy Wider Method:
This isn't an art class—it's a belief-breaking experience. As a qualified art therapist with 34 years and 22,000+ people transformed, I've designed this workshop specifically for skeptical, analytical adults who've carried "I'm not creative" as identity for decades.
The session integrates:
- Art therapy principles: Creating psychological safety where vulnerability becomes breakthrough
- Neuroscience: Activating flow state and reducing stress through focused creative practice
- Growth mindset coaching: Demonstrating that abilities are developed, not innate
- Team dynamics: Shared creative risk-taking builds trust and camaraderie
The method is systematic (perfect for analytical minds), the pace is energizing (no one gets bored or left behind), and the outcome is undeniable (everyone leaves with proof they created something).
Perfect For:
- Corporate teams exploring innovation and creative problem-solving
- Leadership development (challenging fixed mindsets)
- Team bonding and morale building
- Conference breakout sessions and off-site retreats
- Stress management and wellness programs
- Retirement transition groups
- Any group that needs a confidence boost and fresh perspective
What's Included:
- All materials provided: professional graphite pencil and quality paper presented in individual welcome packs
- Step-by-step guided instruction
- Interactive games and group activities
- Individual encouragement and support throughout
- Take-home drawing as tangible proof of achievement
Benefits
Key Benefits:
- Ignites growth mindset: "If I can learn this, what else can I learn?"
- Builds creative confidence that transfers beyond drawing
- Strengthens team bonds through shared vulnerability and breakthrough
- Reduces stress through therapeutic focus and flow state
- Challenges limiting beliefs in a fun, low-stakes environment
- Provides immediate proof of hidden capabilities
- Creates memorable experience teams reference for months
- Shifts culture from "I can't" to "I can—let me try"
Why This Works for Corporate Clients:
This workshop delivers strategic value disguised as fun. The "I can't to I can" shift participants experience with drawing becomes a metaphor teams return to again and again: "Remember when we all thought we couldn't draw? Maybe we can figure out this problem too."
The skills practiced—breaking complex challenges into simple steps, trusting the process, learning through doing, supporting each other through uncertainty—are the exact skills high-performing teams need. And when analytical professionals (engineers, accountants, executives) prove to themselves they can create, it opens conversations about untapped potential across the entire organization.
No art experience required. Just curiosity and a willingness to surprise yourself.
Additional Experience Info
